Gibraltar
Yesterday was another sea day. Our routine was pretty much the same as any other sea day. We started with an hour swim. Water is sort of warm but the air and wind, not so much. Some of the people think we are crazy and I might agree with them. We missed breakfast so went to the Cafe for tea and a muffin. The muffin was over cooked so I only had the tea and a banana. Good for the diet.
Lunch was a beautiful seafood buffet. So we sat outside and enjoyed the food. Later I headed to needlepoint and then trivia. We won the other day but not so good today. Oh well.
Dinner was in Chartreuse. We were guests of Danyella, the food and beverage director. We sat with two other couples. 'Chiron and Mark from Georgia and Raneeta and Don from Louisiana. Both of these couples are members of the Keene Travel Group. Dinner was terrific and we really enjoyed the evening.
Today we are docked in Gibraltar. We started with a swim but only for half hour as we were touring and would do a lot of walking.
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance to the Mediterranean. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. It is said that Gibraltar will remain British as long as the monkeys are here. The monkeys are allowed to roam free.
Our tour took us by cable car to the top of the rock and there we saw lots of the monkeys. Then we walked to St. Micheal's Cave. The caves has been here since Roman times. During World War II the caves were said to be ready to use as a hospital but that never happened. Now they hold concerts in the caves.
The final stop was to the Great Siege Tunnels. I opted not to go as my knee was really bothering me. Bob said that was a good decision. And we have been there before. The Great Siege tunnels were used to hide cannons used to defend the British colony of Gibraltar against the attacks from the Spanish and French from 1779 to 1783.
We then returned to the ship for a light lunch and then a nap for Bob and I am catching up on the blog. Pictures from Bob will have to wait. My Facebook page has some pictures I took with my phone.
