Bermuda Second Day

Thursday was our second day in Bermuda.  We got up and headed to the pool.  Well, the good thing was the water was warm.  The bad thing was the air was cold and windy.  Really windy.  Everyone that passed us, thought we were crazy.  We did stay in and exercise for the entire hour.  The only part of you that was cold was your head and shoulders.  You ran like crazy to get to the hot shower. We then dressed and headed to La Veranda for breakfast.  The rest of the morning was crossword puzzles and needlepoint.  We decided not to go on our tour as it was a boat ride and the best way to see the homes was from the upper deck which meant you would be in the weather the whole time. Had a quick lunch at the pool grill as all the seats in La Veranda were taken.  Probably a good thing as we ate light.  Then back to the suite to nap for Bob and needlepoint for me.  The ship took off at around 3pm. Needlepoint was in the Observat...

Today we are docked at the Royal Navy Dockyards.  This was known as King's Wharf.  It was built by the British Nay in the 19th century.  The Georgian-style fort later served as a North Atlantic base during the world wars  In 1975 the Bermuda Maritime Museum opened and restoration of the Dockyard soon make the charming area a popular cultural tourism destination.  The Dockyard encompassed an area of less than one square kilometer and all attractions are within easy walking distance from the pier. A view of the area where we are docked. The Dock Yard Clock Tower.  They have converted this building to shops. Some of the passengers waiting for the tour of the famous homes here in Bermuda. Our tour today was Scenic Southern Shores.  We rode around the island in a taxi that held 6 persons plus the driver.  Our driver was Earl and he pointed out buildings and such.  It took about three hours.  This island is 22 miles long and ...

Sea Day #2

Today is Tuesday.  We are sailing toward Bermuda.  Arrival is at 8am tomorrow morning. Yesterday afternoon I attended the first needlepoint gathering.  Lots of ladies came in order to get a project to work on during the cruise.  I sat with Phyllis and Lorraine.  They are sisters-in-laws.  One from Denver and the other from Lake Tahoe.  Then down to trivia.  So many people want to play trivia that they have moved it from the Observation Lounge to the Theater.  I think there were about 140 persons playing.  We came in third so got one point each.  A start.  We can only get better. Dressed for dinner and met Noel and Tom in the Observation Lounge for a pre dinner cocktail.  Then to Compass Rose for dinner.  I continued to order the Canyon Ranch selection.  Bob and Tom each had the lobster and it was way overcooked.  Neither of them finished their dinner.  Mine was lobster also but I did eat it all. B...

Sea Day Number 1

Today is Monday and our first full sea day.  Weather is cool and very windy. Last night we had cocktails and then headed to the Compass Rose for dinner.  They could not seat us at a table for two but we opted to wait for one to open up.  While checking in, Tom came over to see us and we chatted with he and Noel for a few minutes.  We then we seated at a great table for two by the window. The menu here is Compass Rose is different from any of the other Regent ships.  On the left hand side of the menu they have items that are available everyday.  Things like Dover Sole, Lobster Tails, Lamb Chops, etc.  Makes going to the special restaurants unnecessary.  Bob had the Lamb Chops while I tried to stay healthy and ate the Canyon Ranch selection. This morning we got up and headed to the pool to do our water aerobics.  The water was rather cold and the pool was rough.  Lots of wave action.  Like swimming in the ocean but you can touch...

Saturday Night

Sorry for the mix up but for some reason, I cannot add to the other blog.  So from now on, this will be the blog of the cruise. The members of the group gathered for a bus ride to Regent Headquarters.  Here we were served wine and snacks and a tour of the offices if you wanted.  Bob took the tour and it was just a bunch of cubicles.  But we finally got to meet Susan.  She is the agent we use and have used her for about five years now and we finally meet. Then we were bused to Miami Beach and dinner at the Yuca Restaurant.  Dinner was pretty good but the mojito was better.  I think I had too many but who was counting? Sunday we got up early and headed to breakfast at the hotel.  I just had a light breakfast as we were having lunch with the group in Compass Rose once we were on board.  I was nervous about them getting our luggage as we had to leave it in the room while we took a bus to the pier. Lunch was wonderful.  We sat with Sh...

Driving to Miami

Friday is the start of our 31 day cruise.  We are packed and ready to go.  Breakfast at the Metro Diner and then to Sawgrass Marriott to pick up our car.  Well, car is coming from the airport and will not be here until noon.  Bob decided to try Hertz so off we drove to St. Augustine airport to pick up a different car.  While signing the contract, Avis call and said car there.  Oh well.  Returned to our house to get our luggage and head south. Traffic fine until we got to Palm Beach area and then red line all the way.  We decide to try the Florida Turnpike and headed there.  Much better but once you get to Miami, traffic becomes very heavy.  I could not live with this kind of traffic for long.  Give me quiet Nocatee. Checked into the hotel here in Coral Gables and then returned the car to the Biltmore Hotel. Took a cab back to our hotel and took our luggage up to our room.  The room is very nice with a king size bed and a se...
